MG Motor is embracing its leadership position as providing the most attainable fully electric vehicle in New Zealand, announcing a number of initiatives which reinforce the marque as the country’s number one option when it comes to plug-in motoring.

“Thanks to Clean Car rebates on electric and plug-in vehicles, there is no better time than now to make the switch to greener, more sustainable motoring,” said MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao.

“MG is the leader in affordable EV mobility.  An electric and plug-in vehicle is cost effective and delivers price certainty, which is all the more desirable with high and fluctuating fuel prices.”

The new MG ZS EV will launch mid-year and features a comprehensive styling makeover, a completely new interior treatment and a new, more efficient and better-performing powertrain.

Customers will be able to choose from two variants, with the new value-led Excite available from $49,990 driveaway complementing the stylish, luxurious Essence (from $52,990 driveaway).

Both will feature an all-new, high-specification 51kWh high-voltage battery that provides up to 320km of range, an updated electric motor and enhanced battery management electronics.

An option for people not quite ready to make the switch to full-electric is the MG HS Plus EV, with news that MG Motor has added a more value-packed variant of its successful HS Plus EV to the model portfolio.

Known as the HS Plus Excite, it takes inspiration from the leading technology features that have made the HS Plus EV a hit with discerning New Zealand buyers.

Available from $50,990, the new model is eligible for a rebate of $5,750 and shares the same 189kW/370Nm petrol/electric powertrain, plug-in battery and comprehensive safety technology as its high-specification stablemate.

Both HS Plus EV models are powered by the same combination of a direct-injection four cylinder 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a compact yet powerful 90kW electric motor, returning a combined fuel consumption figure of just 1.7L/100km and emitting a mere 39g of CO2 per kilometre.

Adding to the new model offerings is the knowledge that the advertised price is the final price, as all new MG vehicles for sale feature ‘drive away, no more to pay’ pricing.

Furthermore, additional peace of mind is afforded thanks to the fact every new MG sold in New Zealand comes standard with seven-year warranty, seven-year roadside assistance and seven-year warrant of fitness checks.

The ‘seven-year trifecta’ remains with the vehicle and is transferable from one owner to the next, adding to the total cost of ownership value-equation.
